Welcome!

Hello there,as you can see I'm working with guns,with Gold on them. I use GIMP 2.8 and it's really fun.

I had to re-open this because I didn't make reserved spots *sigh*

This shop is closed,but your opinion on the guns is welcome.

Golden Weapon Tutorial

This tutorial uses GIMP 2.8.

First, open an image of a gun. all of the play4free weapons can be found here: http://p4f.nodester.com/images/weapons . Call that 'layer 1'.

Duplicate layer 1. Call the duplicate 'layer 2' (this will make the tutorial easier to understand). On layer 2, use the 'free select' tool to select the base area you want to be golden! you can change the selection mode to 'subtract from current selection' to cout out holes in the selection. After you've got your selection how you want, click 'ctrl+i', to invert the selection. then click 'ctrl+x' to delete the selection, then click 'ctrl+i' again to get the selection you first wanted. that just helps with the final product.

With layer 2 still selected, click on the 'blend tool'. keep all the default settings, apart from the gradient, which you'll need to change to 'golden' (this gradient comes with gimp, no need to download the gradient). then go to 'colors -> map -> gradient map'. then change the layer mode to 'dodge'.

Duplicate layer 2. Call the duplicate 'layer 3'. Layer 3 should still be set to 'dodge'. Change layer 3's opacity to around 20.

Next, select layer 2. Go to 'colors - > Hue-Saturation'. Play around with the saturation and lightness settings, but don't touch the hue settings. I find that 'lightness - 15 and saturation - 20' work quite well.

Click 'selection -> select none', and viola! you're done!

To save it as a .png/.jpeg image, you'll want to go 'image -> merge visible layers'. then 'file -> export'. Change the type to 'all images', type in what you want to image to be called, then type either .jpeg or .png (png's are better quality, but bigger file size. vice-versa for jpeg's).
