help with gimp 2

i hav a problem gimp 2 when ever i cut out a character and put it to the background i can only see the outline so how do i put the character in front of the background

invert the selection im pretty sure

ok ill help you get the get the free salection tool and click around the thing you want rendered and then when your done right click on the layers add alfa channel then go to edit then invert then delete then your done

You have to merge the layer, then paste. Did you do that?
