[Guide] How to completely remove PB and BFP4F

This may come in use if you need to do a reinstall of the game/PB. (this is for windows XP users)


1: Go to 'add or remove programs'.
Uninstall:

• Battlefield Play4Free
• Punkbuster (if the option is there)
  

2: Remove BFP4F from your Documents as it will not get removed in the uninstall (delete the whole folder).
*username* = your current user name on your OS

• C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\My Documents\Battlefield Play4Free
  

3: Remove PB from your 'local settings' (delete the whole folder):
*username* = your current user name on your OS

• C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Application Data\PunkBuster\BFP4F
  

You may have to allow to view hidden files. (see 8)


4: Remove the addon from your browser:

• Open your browser > go to Tools > Addons
• Select 'uninstall/remove' on Battlefield Play4Free
  

WARNING
Do not delete/modify anything else as it may corrupt your computer. Do not proceed if you are unsure.

If you choose to ignore that warning, then you may wish to make a backup of your registry before carrying on.

5: Remove BFP4F from the registry (delete the specific folder):
Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT

Follow the path in the registry and delete the folder.

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield Play4Free
  This may also be in:
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield Play4Free
  

CAUTION
This will also remove punkbuster from any other game that uses the punkbuster software (like BFH, BF2, etc)

6: Remove PB from the registry (delete the specific folder):
Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT

Follow the path in the registry and delete the folder.

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Even Balance
  

7: Remove PB from the windows dierctory (delete the specific file):

• C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrB.ex0
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrB.exe
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrB.xtr
  

Thats it, PunkBuster and Battlefield Play4Free have now been completely removed from your computer.

Reboot the computer and then reinstall the game via playnow.

8: How to show hidden files:
a.
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.

b.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Note.
Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not typical items. Usually, hidden files are program or system files that should not be deleted or changed. To display other hidden files, clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box.

IF that does not work, then try this:

The symptom of this problem is every time you select the Show hidden files and folders options under Folder Options, the screen just flashes and when you click OK and the hidden files and folders are still hidden. If you have this problem, you may have some type of virus or spyware on your computer. Most times, this issue can be solved by running a scan with MalwareBytes or Spybot. Other times, you can fix this problem by editing the registry.

WARNING
Do not delete/modify anything else as it may corrupt your computer. Do not proceed if you are unsure.

Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT

Follow the path to:

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  

On the right side, double click the Hidden value and give it a value of 1.

You should now be able to enable hidden files and folders.

6: Remove PB from the registry (delete the specific folder):
Click Start > Run (search bar) and type REGEDIT

Follow the path in the registry and delete the folder.

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Even Balance
  

7: Remove PB from the windows dierctory (delete the specific file):

• C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrA.exe
• C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrB.ex0

• C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrB.xtr
  

Thats it, PunkBuster and Battlefield Play4Free have now been completely removed from your computer.

Reboot the computer and then reinstall the game via playnow.

8: How to show hidden files: (Source of below info)
To enable the viewing of hidden and protected system files in Windows 7 please follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Click on the Start button.
3. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
4. When the control panel opens you will see a screen similar to Figure 1 below.



5. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.
6. You will now be in the Appearance and Personalization control panel as shown in Figure 2 below.



Now click on the Show hidden files and folders option as shown by the red arrow in Figure 2 above.
7. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
9. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).

Once this is done, your Folder Options screen should look similar to the following image.



10. Press the Apply button and then the OK button.

You will now be at your desktop and Windows 7 will be configured to show all hidden files.

Thats it, PunkBuster and Battlefield Heroes have now been completely removed from your computer.

Reboot the computer and then reinstall the game via playnow.
