They never made a variant like this. The closest thing they made to something like what you're desiring is what the medic currently uses, which is classified as an "Automatic Rifle/Designated Marksman Rifle".

The SVD is a real gun. The "XM8 Sharpshooter" is not a real gun, and never will be. The XM8 project was never greenlit, and so never went further than the prototype stage.

If we're going to start adding non-existent weapons to the game, my vote is for a Quake railgun, or something equally ridiculous.

The fact that all the other classes have an XM8 variant is irrelevant since all of the other class variants were actually MADE and tested.

There is no point to having a "sniper/sharpshooter" rifle that fires 5.56N since the round is weak when compared to other designated marksman rifles like the M14 and SVD. Those weapons fire a much larger and more powerful round than the 5.56N and are better suited for their intended purpose. Lastly, the 5.56N round is weak against armored targets and can't punch through most body armor unless it's the M855 solid cored penetrator round.

Here we go.. once again.. for posterity's sake.

A 3.5x scope would be more true to the real life DMR version. The barrel was between the two pictures you posted, and the gun should be just overall bulkier too .

I see a flame war going on about the reality of the gun, and I'll say that games don't always use real guns. Take the WA 2000-1 Tactical from Combat Arms. It's not real, they just meshed together a WA 2000 and a DSR-1 Tactical. I don't mind EA making up an XM8 sniper. I think it'd be pretty rad.

A verbal battle wasn't my intention by any means. The thing is, the BF series has been true to the use of real weapons (with the exception of 2142, naturally) and I expect this game to be no different. While I understand your point, I don't think EAsy will see it the same... at least I hope not.

No matter either way. I've made my point without need for further e-peening.
