How do I change the team/country of my soldier?

Whenever I start the game my Soldier it says my Soldier is from the U.S. (at the bottom of the soldier, just above the weapons bar). If I change the country of the Soldier to Russia, and join a game, the Soldier goes back to being from the U.S. If I leave the game and come back, it goes back to saying that the Soldier is from the U.S. on the main screen. Is there anything I can do about this?

Default country in the game client screen is USA. Don't ask me why.
BUT: The only function of the USA/RU choice in the client screen is to show you the uniform of the other country.

The team you are in when you have joined a server is decided by the server.
You can not switch yourself, however very annoyingly the server can switch you to the other side halfway a match when it feels the number of players on each side needs balancing
