Open the server browser and click on the ping tab then join the one with the lowest ping.

and, what does it mean to have a high ping?

Ping is used to measure how long it takes for information to be sent and received between your computer and the server you are connected to.

High ping would mean it's taking longer for that information to be received, resulting in lag for everyone who also is connected to that server.

Ping times change every second so a true reading is a little hard to come by however, you can check your times by visiting http://www.pingtest.net.

To lower your ping, you would have to make sure that there's no other programs using the internet or upgrading to a better package or provider. Also joining servers that are close to you will help greatly.

You could always do a wikipedia search about it.
I'm not that tech savvy either, but I'll make it easy...

A ping is a measurement of latency. It's the time it takes for your computer to send data to a server and also the time it takes for server to respond back. "Lag" is slang for ping, if you heard people say it before. If you have a high ping, you have a bad connection to the server. The higher ping you have, the slower it takes for any action you make to be registered. (E.g. If you click your mouse, and you have bad lag, you might notice a 1 second or more before you actually shoot)

0-250 milliseconds is considered good latency
300 is playable (not if you want to play seriously)
450 or more ms ping would be unplayable. And most servers kick laggers so people who can actually play can get in.

Ping also depends which server you want to get into. There are servers scattered all across the world. It's best if you play a server near you location. It would be inadvisableto play an Asian server if your in America for example, since distance effects ping.

There's really no way to get a better ping if your far away from a server and have bad internet. Importantly, it depends on your internet connection. For good results, you shouldn't use a wireless connection and you should have an internet provider that uses broadband or other high-speed internet.

[It took me a while to write this, screw you above poster :3]

Have you tried RagedDrew's link? What was your ping? That would be informative to us. Along what server you tried to play in.

If you have any anti-virus programs or firewalls, try to turn them off while you play. That helps too.
Have you only had this problem recently? Try restarting your computer and your unplug your modem\router for 15 seconds.

I have tried his link, I am new to this game, so I have never experienced problems before.

my ping is 38ms and 7ms jitter and the link quality is B*

I have anti virus programs, so I will turn them off.

I have also restarted my computer many times...

I usually get an average ping of 27-35 ping but sometimes it bugs out a bit. Just as long it doesn't stutter from 38 to 47 OR 38 to 29 you shouldn't notice any image jerks or any of that.

I got all types of ammo.

You shouldn't be kick with that kind of ping.
Your going to have to conclude that your latency isn't the reason punkbuster is kicking you. Punkbuster is a anti-cheat system, but it also causes problems for no reason.

Like I said, has this always been a problem or was it recent? Anyways, some people were able to solver their Punkbuster problems by doing these:

Close the game. And make sure Punkbuster or BFP4F isn't running. If your using Windows 64-bit, try to go to:
C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Documents\Battlefield Play4Free\mods\main\cache
And delete everything in there.

Try updating Punkbuster.

See if those work.

PB Client v2.244 for Win32

You can still use Win32 stuff on 64-bit Windows, especially since it's the only option.

I made a mistake, download this:

For All Windows Games

In the program, press the Add Game button and add Battlefield Play for Free. Make sure Punk Buster is updated by pressing Check Updates.
