i found the folder but hosts.data file doesn't exist. i have tried all 3 of the solutions listed here

http://battlefield.play4free.com/en/foru...?tid=18531

there is no solution for me. zero out of the three solutions given on that thread work.
the first one is a complete joke.

the second solution does not even apply to me since there is no keywords in that file as is mentioned in the solution, and same with the third.

it just plain doesn't work. i am starting to get very very irritated at the techies at the other end who obviously don't know what they are doing or don't care that a whole lot of people cant play their game.

by the way i uninstalled the game as a solution suggested by another player. now i cannot even re-install the game. you can imagine my frustration.

Something is blocking the download or the request timed out because your internet was busy doing other things.

Try again after temporarily disabling your Firewall and Antivirus.
If the download works, turn them back on when the download is complete.

Shut down any unnecessary background processes that may use bandwidth.
Other downloads, ICQ, other web browsers, etc...

Don't forget, if you are running Vista or 7, you need to install the game with a browser that has administrative privileges.
- Log out and close all web browser windows.
- Open a new one by right clicking on your browsers icon, and choosing Run As-> Administrator
