Someone befriended me and shows up on my friend list. How do I befriend people myself? What button?

You befriend people by beating the crap out of them-

Alternatively, press the "Friends" button in the upper right. Does exactly the same as Community -> Friends.

The easy way in game is to click on their name on the scoreboard - it send a friend request - its up to them if they accept.
