MSI afterburner, it's said to be the best recorder if you gotta dodge lag, and, well, you don't have much choice left...

^This

Also, no matter which recording software you use, it's best if you record to a separate drive than the one you're playing the game from. And make sure your capture settings aren't set too high (ex: in Afterburner, use "half-frame" to save a lot of processing overhead)

Eh, Fraps works fine for me for all of my recording needs in the games I can run.
But if performance IS an issue, go with the MSI Afterburner. Should do you well.

yeah thats the prob with fraps, i get 30-50 fps less while recording.
With msi afterburner i have no fps drops at all or you wont notice them + a better quality

Well you better get a graphics card. When I used my onboard GPU then it was lagging when I record it, when I bought a graphics/video card it wasn't lagging anymore. Any recording software will cause a lag to your game if you don't have a graphics/video card because it needs to be rendered. I have Geforce GT 610 2048 MB its only $100(the price of that graphics card depends on where you live so it might be lower there, it costs $100 here in Philippines) and its good on games that uses DirectX 9 but not good on DirectX 11 (will lag on BF3 on low, gives you around 10-18 FPS) but you can record DX9 games without lag. Do you have a graphics/video card? What is your average FPS when playing? What's the average FPS when recording? If its low the get a graphics/video card.
BTW I use bandicam when I record games.
