that pretty much sums it all up.
no what you will get is most likely not permenant
no it will most likely be not worth the funds

come on, think about it this way, the devs did NOT advertise the supply drops that fancifully and constantly for a reason right?

Just don't. Spent 110k just to get a permanent M145. It is NOT worth it.

You could even buy bandages with the funds you have left and you'll have something of more worth than the average gain from the Supply Drop.

I'd say get attachments. And if it's attachments you want to get, I'll be more than happy to tell you which ones would work best with the guns you own.

you'd be better off if you buy what you need, instead of supply drops

I bought an attachment supply drop, got High Capacity Mags permanent.

Which is useless because Casket Mags are superior.

Yeah, High-capacity mags are useless because there's an attachment which is better..

With that reasoning, every weapon and/or attachment is useless except the "best" one.

High Capacity mags can be better than Casket mags depending on what weapon you're using.

Basically, the Supply Drops are a rip off unless you've got money to burn. You're better off picking and choosing what you will purchase next.

Well, high-capacity mags are useless for an Assault. Casket mags provide more ammo per magazine, and since you have unlimited magazines, you don't need any other way of increasing your ammo.

Let's do a little math. 20/3 is the least amount of bullets any Assault rifle has (60 total), so we'll go with that.

(20 + 16) x 3 = 108 bullets with casket mags.

(20 + 8) x (3 + 1) = 112 bullets with high capacity mags, a difference of just FOUR bullets in the long run. (this is obviously going to be slightly different per assault rifle as some have 24, 25 or 26 bullets per mag. For example the AUG would have 41 bullets/mag with 123 total with caskets as opposed to 33 bullets/mag with 132 total, a difference that's widened from four bullets to nine... still not that much)

But you also need to take into account that each high capacity mag has eight less bullets than a casket mag, which means eight less bullets to fire before you reload. With many assault rifles, that means one or even two more kills per magazine, possibly even resulting in your death because you're forced to reload early or you run out of bullets in the middle of a firefight. Taking into account the fact that Assaults have unlimited mags, the few extra bullets become insignificant compared to the number of bullets per magazine.

TL;DR version:

For Assaults anyway.

For non-Assault classes, casket mags may still be the better choice. It all depends on your playstyle.

Too bad you didn't specify that in the post I reacted to.

Your little mathematical example is pointless because you're talking about a class that has infinite ammo. Sure, if you're playing an assault and you feel you need more ammo, the only thing you need to look at is the capacity per mag. That much is true. I would argue that there are other ammo-attachments that are more useful however but that's another discussion.

Let's do your example but let's look at LMGs instead.
    RPK - 40x4 bullets by default (160)
(40+30)x5 with High Capacity Mags (350)
    (40+60)x4 with Casket Mags (400)

    M240 - 90x2 bullets by default (180)
(90+30)x3 with High Capacity Mags (360)
    (90+60)x2 with Casket Mags (300)

What does this example show? It shows that it's all depending on what weapon you're using and your play-style.

The only thing that matters is whether or not you have a weapon which already has high-capacity magazines by default.

To further disprove your statement that casket-mags is the superior choice, let me give you this calculation:
    M240 - 90x5 with Extra Magazines (450 bullets in total). That's a whoopin' 150 extra bullets compared to casket-mags!

Granted, the RPK and the M240 are on the extreme end of the spectrum for LMGs when it comes to capacity but you don't have to take those examples.

Most LMGs have 80 as default capacity:
    M249 - 80x2 bullets by defauly (160)
(80+30)x3 with High Capacity Mags (330)
    (80+60)x2 with Casket Mags (280)
    80x5 with Extra Magazines (400)

Even the ones with 60 default capacity kind of disproves your theory:
    MG36 - 60x3 bullets by default (180)
(60+30)x4 with High Capacity Mags (360)
    (60+60)x3 with Casket Mags (360)
    60x6 with Extra Magazines (360)

So, what have I proven by all these examples? Well, in 9 out of 10 weapons for the medic, your statement is completely false. So while it might be the better choice when it comes to assaults (and 8/10 engineer weapons) it isn't completely true.

That's what I said. It all depends on your weapon, your playstyle and how much you like reloading and how good your team is at dropping ammo crates. (I leave a trail of them behind like a bunny leaves a trail of pellets)

Ohai Pellets. Tongue

Basically, my ammo box is always on cooldown because I've always got one at my feet and one near my teammates. Or two at my feet, if I happen to be amidst a group of teammates.

Buy this guy's kit. about 50% off and you get some swoon apparel to go with it, alongside a loophole past level unlocking in case you'd need it.
