So when the open beta? And the big wipe.
Firax, Your really stupid. Advertising does not, and will not cover the costs of a f2p game.

F2P games rely on the micro transactions to keep going. Please like one person stated above. Try to code a game your self that is even comparable to this. Buy the hardware, software, licenses, EVERY THING. Count up the costs, then try to run the game for 100% with adverts paying for every thing.
BFH didn't have a crazy amount of hacking done and such, so don't talk about cats at the dog pound.

And yeah Firax is just trolling, someone didn't get hugged enough as a child. Or maybe too much? Big Grin

As I mentioned in an earlier post I am aware of the many expenses it requires to make a game, both the one-time expenses and the recurring expenses. It will take time to make a profit, maybe several years, but it is not impossible for a game to cover it's costs solely by advertising. Since you haven't seen it done you don't believe it can be done. I believe it can be done, but I don't have a plan, the time or the ability to code a game from scratch.

PS: Even though you insult me by questioning my intellect I refuse to stoop to that low level of communication thus keeping my hands mud free.

It seems like insulting me has become a sport. Have all the fun you want with it.
Laugh with us not against us Firax! Keeping a game going completely just by advertisements works with flash game sites because they are visited all the time. They tried in game advertising with BF 2142. Didn't work well. Micro-transactions are the future, look @ D&D online and LOTRO. It makes games free to play normally and cost to be rushed through. If its free for someone that enjoys ENJOYING a game not be represented by a number, I'm all for it.

What I stated in the first place was was just that it is not impossible to cover all expenses via adds, if such a strategy is the future or not is a whole different matter!
You bring up a very interesting topic here: the type of game.
The majority of companies use either one or the other kind of memberships: F2P(with the optional purchase of in game items or donations) vs. P2P(One-time fee or a recurring payment option)
Turbine have achieve a great deal of success with the way they run ddo and how they now also run lotro. They "cater to all" so to speak by having f2p'ers, subscribers and those in between.
(I'm in the 'in between' category in both those games)
Sadly I haven't seen many companies use a similar strategy for their games...
When you set a date, stick to it. Or at least give us some new info!

IJJI has quite a nice games, all giving the option of real f2p or pay for additional stuff.
I personally wouldn't mind micro-transactions, on the one condition that they take a look at how Battlefield Heroes utilized them and then make it their top priority to not do it like that. I'm sorry, but providing game-breaking weapons for every bored teenager with access to their parents' credit card just doesn't lead to happy players.

We didn't set a date. We said late Jan/early Feb. Now... your definition of early Feb might be slightly different to ours, but we'll release more info before that timeframe passes.

early Feb in my book is the first half of feb.... 28 days divided by 2 = 14, so you have 4 days left (in my book) to tell us about the wipe Tongue

And i think i am speaking for several people on these forums when is state the above... (also you should have called it 'the first half of feb' if what stated above was the case)
I'm really looking forward to the wipe. I'd like to get started with my permanent characters.

Well allright then... to me, late January/early February is 25.01-05.02 Shy
When the wipe was announced I expected it to happen in the first 3 days of February, the 5th at the very latest!
It is now the 11th, so we have now moved from the first part of the month to the middle part!
Breakdown of a month:
Early/beginning of and late/end of the month - The first/last 3 days of the month, 5 if we stretch it!
First part of a month - The first 10 days(9 for February)
Middle part of a month - The next 10 or 11 days
Last part of a month - The last 10 days(9 for February)
easy, february aint gone yet,so easy peps.
YAAY
Well guys, we just have to wait. And it is better to wait now, then have problems with a early wipe.. But a better indication of the game makers, should be nice.
