The update which brought us the weapon customization feature has been surrounded by a lot of rage, controversy, speculation and these forums have been filled with threads concerning this. This topic is not an attempt to address any of those issues. The only purpose of it is to help people who want to play and enjoy this game make informed decisions about which attachments they should choose.
I will go through the customization process step by step and show you how to do it and what motives you should have when picking the attachments. Throughout this guide I will be using the Battlefield Play4Free Comparison Tool which you can find here:
The images below show you an example of how the in-game stats look and then how the BFP4F-Tools show you the stats. The in-game stats are very arbitrary and sometimes even misleading.
Ok, this is the part where I will be guiding you through the different barrels.
What does the barrels actually do? Let's look at the basic assault rifle, the G3A4 and see what they do.
So, let's take a look at those numbers.
Close-in barrel:
. ![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252008-04-27.jpg]](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xaKAXybk95g/TwlAYmZ8GuI/AAAAAAAABXI/BHuNy1LPvEM/s800/2012-01-08%25252008-04-27.jpg)
Increases the short range segment by 10 meters making for assault rifles, LMGs and SMGs and medium range by 5 meters. Sniper rifles get an additional 5 meters (15 meter increase in total) to close range and 7 meters increase to medium range.
The left image above apply to Assault/Medic/Engineer, the right one applies to Recon.
Stand-off barrel:
. ![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252008-04-07.jpg]](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lIC18o5ltmw/TwlAYgWUf5I/AAAAAAAABXM/GsXgbXiQNqk/s800/2012-01-08%25252008-04-07.jpg)
Increases the medium range segment by 20 meters for assault rifles, LMGs and SMGs. Sniper rifles get an increase of 30 meters.
The left image above apply to Assault/Medic/Engineer, the right one applies to Recon.
Precision barrel:
. ![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252008-04-49.jpg]](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J_7Miz8E-MA/TwlAYvO8i1I/AAAAAAAABXE/TFBtp_U3-X4/s800/2012-01-08%25252008-04-49.jpg)
Increases the Projectile Velocity of the weapon. All classes except Recon seems to be getting an increase of 250 where as sniper rifles only get an increase of 200.
As far as I know, projectile velocity only really matters for snipers, reducing bullet-drop and the amount by which you have to lead a moving target. Those aspects are mostly useful for snipers, making this barrel pretty useless for anyone except snipers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
The left image above apply to Assault/Medic/Engineer, the right one applies to Recon.
Heavy barrel:
![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252004-19-56.jpg]](https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Z40P6G5qCMo/TwkLvXKHtBI/AAAAAAAABTA/0LezX3lXA4Q/s800/2012-01-08%25252004-19-56.jpg)
Increases the Projectile Velocity by 100 and increases the mid-range segment by 10 meters for assault rifles and LMGs. For Engineers, the projectile velocity increases by 100 and the short-range segment increases by 7. Sniper rifles get an increase in velocity of 75 and the mid-range segment increases by 10 meters.
As you all probably know, you can also choose to carry more ammunition rather than having a different type of ammo. Some weapons suffer a low default-ammunition count so you might want to do this instead.
There are three different types of additional ammunition to choose from.
Extra Magazines:
.
.
. ![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252006-44-59.jpg]](https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9Ie0Qq47e34/TwktrWbDNoI/AAAAAAAABWE/RkEO2JOokho/s800/2012-01-08%25252006-44-59.jpg)
You carry extra magazines. The amount varies depending on class. This option will give you the most extra ammunition of the available options in most cases, there are exceptions though. The AKS74U for example have a very small default mag, 15 round capacity only. In that case, the Casket-mag option is a lot better. There might be other exceptions as well so you'll have to look that up for yourself.
The images above display the four classes, from left to right; Assault, Medic, Engineer and Recon.
High Capacity Mags:
.
.
. ![[Image: 2012-01-08%25252006-44-51.jpg]](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mda4N66zVPY/TwktrVO01pI/AAAAAAAABWI/6GBDn7vM6XQ/s800/2012-01-08%25252006-44-51.jpg)
As indicated by the description, you carry high capacity mags. This will reduce the need to reload your weapon in the middle of fights but might not provide as much ammunition as simply carrying extra standard mags.
The images above display the four classes, from left to right; Assault, Medic, Engineer and Recon.
Casket Mags:
.
.
. ![[Image: BFP4f%25202012-02-04%252001-31-11-40.jpg]](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S8NSv_XdNqI/Tyx8qI8a7KI/AAAAAAAABwo/pkX5C4vebzo/s800/BFP4f%25202012-02-04%252001-31-11-40.jpg)
Casket mags is the third and final option for carrying extra ammunition. This option drastically increase the capacity of your magazines but does not increase the number of magazines you carry.
The images above display, from left to right; Assault, Medic and Engineer and Recon.
As a rule of thumb, if your weapon has a high default capacity, go for extra magazines. If your weapon has a low capacity, go for Casket-mags.
No TL,DR-part yet, still working on that part.

Or... you can simply buy a shotgun (400-750Cr) and a grenade booster (700Cr) , and save time and money

Feel free to discuss the use of boosters elsewhere, this topic is about attachments and what they do.

Dude, thank you! OMG I can't wait to buy any gun and start to customize it,so I need tip. I have 9611 credits. So first I wanted to buy P90,then after buying UMP for one day,I liked it,and now I'm thinking of buying it? How to you think, does buying P90 worth it? I just can't wait to buy and customize my wep.

Personally, I haven't used the P90 much. I went straight for the MP5 and never looked back.
The P90 does have the most ammunition per magazine but it has a really funky sideways-recoil. I'd recommend trying a few SMGs before deciding on any to get permanently.

I tried all. And I already got used to P90. (Really good) So thats because I'm thinking to buy it... I just can't wait to buy any of them to play and customize!! Both are good but still it's hard for me to make a choice!
