In case you missed my post on the bfh forum, this sig is against forum rules as it is over 500k in file size. Just giving you a heads up. I personally think they should increase the file size of sigs since anyone playing this game has broadband anyway, but for now it's 500k. (If that's what you meant by 'loads of tweaking' (because it will take loads of tweaking to get this sig looking good and still under 500k) then disregard)

There are a lot of problems on these forums that have been bugging me, for example the character limit on sigs...
Imagine a whole forum filled with 10MB signatures and you will understand why this rule exists.
And he doesn't even go over the limit... The limit is 500KB. Not 500K.

The middle gif in his sig is 2,631.19 KB unless I'm reading it wrong (the image he wants to use for his sig eventually)
And I believe using just 'k' is pretty standard when talking about KB. It's not like I said 500 bytes.
EDIT: Also, I'm not saying raise it to 10mb, but 3 mb is perfectly reasonable considering that most people don't have animated sigs and will come nowhere close to 3mb, no?

There is nothing wrong with more than one image, but as the rules state:
Signature Size:
-> Max size for the full signature can not exceed 250 pixels in height and/or 900 pixels in width. This includes images, text, quotes and links.
-> Max combined file size for a signature is 500KB
So the total area of that signature in your original post is fine, but the total filesize is wayyy over the limit.
@JohnGarrett no 500K is more than reasonable, personally I think the signature limits are a bit too generous as people's signatures take up more space than actual content. 3mb total would be excessively huge whether its animated or not. If people can't get their sigs under 500KB then they need to read about image optimization if they want to play around with photoshop

bam when it comes to a game built for more lower end computers etc your sigs would completely lag up the forums.

3MB LOL, that is unacceptable. As a webdesigner it is also my job making images as small as possible for faster loadtime. Nothing annoyes me more than a website that doesnt load quickly cause of some lame big images.
500kB is large already. If I make a commercial banner I have to do with 50kB for a 300x600 (large skyscraper) banner.
An animated gif of 2.6 MB is just too big.
Only solution I can give is introduce the ability to add flash content to your signature, and let the BFH forum disable all sounds permanently on the swf files. So that there will be no annoying music coming from them.

As far as I know you can't put a flash file on a forum.
Anyway this is going way offtopic.
@Native, it is. I tried putting this image twice in my sig
which isn't possible (BTW cool, the image appears in the middle of the text :O)
I'm able to make the animation smaller BUT since there are parts of the tv included it's going to look rubbish and actually it already does. Now I can just only animate the tv screen so the tv would still look HQ but then I would need to be able to add 5 images in my sig which I can't..
Also as stated above, the sig needs a lot of tweaking so no need to remind me you smartasses

Currently it is not an issue as the beta is only for finding bugs (Maybe when we hit open beta, the limit will be increased) but for now, I don't see an issue with the current limitations.
In fact, the more I check between Heroes and Play4Free every day, the more I am thinking of suggesting a limitation back onto Heroes.
I see both sides of the issue, players want to express themselves and show off their (or others) artwork but also some players just want to browse the forums without having to scroll down the page because of a huge signature.
To recap:
For closed beta - One image is enough, so is 255 characters
Future - We may increase the limit, all depends on what we all decide upon

Maybe consider a user option to disable signatures in the future?
Anyway alright thanks Shade, back to regular sigs for me.

This option is already available
Just have a look at the options in User CP:http://battlefield.play4free.com/en/foru...on=options
Under Topic View Options there is a checkbox reading: Display users' signatures in their posts.

Ohh then there is no need to reduce the images in BFH I say.

I would suggest reducing the height limit. Sure self expression is great but on BFH with it being 250px high it tends to absorb most of the pages.
I remember other forums where they were like 100 -150px high.

But 50k was what was acceptable/rule of thumb for banners when dialup was still around. Shouldn't those types of standards be increased with the widespread proliferation of high speed internet? If it was perfectly acceptable for a 50k banner to load in 7 seconds on a 56k dialup, then why not 1mb for banners in a day and age where even a 1mb/second download speed will load that file up in the same 7 seconds?
Shouldn't the acceptable standards increase along with increasing broadband speeds? There should at least be some increase no? (I do seem to remember 50k as being the limit back in the day though, so it has increased somewhat, just not exactly in correlation to the speed increases)

50kB is still the standard. because believe it or not, there are still a lot of people with a crappy internet connection. BFH and BF P4F is also for people with low specs (everyone needs to be able to play it). That probably means that those people dont give much attention to computers nor their internet connection. I myself hate waiting. I'd prefer a 50kB banner over a 500kB signature. Even with our faster speed connection I still like it faster!

I suppose I'll defer to the professional...(sigh). I'd just like an extra 500kb because I've been into making wacky complex animated sigs lately (I'm currently rolling around a machinima sig idea...yeah, my sigs are getting a little out of control).
