The little yellow thing keeps getting eaten by ghosts, unless i eat a magic tablet...oh wait wrong game.
My first impressions are: Is a nice balance between the other BF games. The action of bf2 and bc2, with quick games like bfh, ideal for a quick fix on limited time.
One thing that gets me, is that for the price of the max battlefund purchase of 40 something quid, i could buy one or two full games with much more content. i mean bc2 and vietnam expansion only cost me less than £30 total.
I find id prefer to buy a full battlefield game, than pay for extras on a free one. That being said, I sometimes buy expansion packs. So maybe themed map pack expansions or similar may be a good idea. although at a lower price you would expect from a premium priced game.

Well I have made a first Impression post already, but I did go away for a bit to see if the lag and other small problems were fixed.
Lag was much better, however I still see a lot of players getting kicked for high pings. With connecting I also noticed that it also depended on the server itself... (The company hosting it game) Ping ates were much better on some, not so good on others.
Game play is about the same as BF2 as you have used the same maps,.. (some things added ) Windows, doors, ladders, added or removed. Map balance is still the same as BF2, good thing you still have the restart of a round by switching sides or I do not think that I would be willing to play much more.
Game Bugs seem to be cleared up from my last posting so will not go into them again.
Suggestions:
Biggest One is the re-spawn after death. There needs to be a few more spawn in points added. I can tell you how many are in each area and where there are........ Spawn in and die before you even get to move. A lot of players are to the point where they can sit in spots and not have to move as the other team spawns in. I want to say that the spawn in action or main spawn option, should stay.
Next I guess would be the cost of Battlefund Gold.... For us to give a beta Alpha test and still have to purchase equipment Hummmmmm... So the other pieces of equipment that we can buy, will not have any bugs in them.
Lastly. Slots.. I have Recon and Assault. Because of the map size, I do understand the need for game fog, BUT the sniper - with scope, has a range of 800m fog or no, 500m max is what you can see.... Maybe.. (option of infrared scope). Assault is OK as well. Making sure you think before you select where you want your EX points to go and what you are wanting to do with this kit.
Over all at this point... I'm on the side of most posting's here. Will I or Not.. just not sure if the game is worth it. After buying it, then buying the Equipment...... maybe just to expensive at this time.
Have enjoyed the testing as always and will continue to test until the beta closes..
Both are what I expected from BF2 but not being able to test the other 2 slots, I cannot give a full testing of the game therefore 50% will have to do lol..
Very much enjoy the ability of testing the equipment BEFORE buying them outright..
My first impression of Battlefield: Play4Free was, "Hey, what happened to the other games? Bad Company 2 got tons of bugs and need updates, why making a new game suddenly in the middle of everything when Battlefield 3 will soon come out?".
Yes, you read correct. Feels a little bit odd to find a sort of "free" game in the middle of everything, same thing as with Heroes before Bad Company 2 was released.
Sure, everyone misses the good old days with Battlefield 2, running wild on the streets of Strike at Karkand, Road to Jalalabad etc maps and seeking for good teamplay. But I don't think this game will provide that, because we got lots of kids nowadays playing these games and they usually don't know the meaning of "teamplay", than ratherly run into an uncap and starts to spawnkill opposite teams or standing back in their own uncap and TK.
No, a good game is a game with lots of work behind it. I hope Battlefield 3 is up to expectations and reliable with updates. I don't want to spend more time playing something that doesn't work, so if this game the slightes crashes while this Closed Beta or on the Open Beta or after that, released version, then the game isn't worth anything and I suggest DICE thinks around a bit and takes our concerns to the table and starts working with stuff that actually work.
"Battlefunds", seriously? Talk about double morality when you say "Play for free". Ok, the first part might be correct that you don't have to buy the actual game, but buying everything else is a bit odd tho. Who would spend all these cash on "funds" for nothing? Gamers don't gain anything on that, they loose a lot of money instead. As sickpuppy said, you could buy whole games for the same amount of money and get even more with them.
Dunno exactly what to say, this feels wicked to find another "free game" made by DICE just to get people to forget Bad Company 2 and go forward. It doesn't work like that.
Oh, let's not forget one thing of them all when it comes to releases from EA/DICE.
Each time EA releases a new game, the other games stops from working. Maybe, if EA are smart, they could spend a little bit more money on buying a new Mainframe server that actually can handle all these games that are produced and released since the first Multiplayer game came out, because right now everything else lags and stops from working, specially Bad Company 2 that has enormous problems with lag for some reason. We expect perfectionism. Fix it!
Have to launch from a browser? Really? Fire whoever thought of that. Everything controlls like ass. Vehicles decide to randomly not respond to certain inputs. No hold ADS, no toggle croutch. Mouse acceleration that cannot be turned off. Can't adjust controls in game (WTF???). No server browser. I want my 30 minutes back.
My first impression is BF2 combined with Heroes

Second, i don't know why but the gameplay feels slow...
then for some reason the iron sights of the G3A4 are WAYYYY off...you have to point mid to get hear, and feet to get center mass.
the parachute also is a bit tricky...'hit spacebar for parachute' *me hitting spacebar.... #SPLAT#....'you made a mistake'....*WTF?!
Maybe it had to do with a minimum distance?
The dead menu is a bit slow and laggy when it's loading 'playerX custumisation', because of that you can't hardly move your mouse to select where you want to spawn
and there are no controll options when you hit the escape button.
in the scoreboard, there are no 'ping' times...so you don't know if you're lagging or who is.

I would call this an alpha.
Ever tried Quake Live beta? It had it's issues but miles away from this bug festival.
This version suffers from too much problems.
Numerous disconnects and other connection issues.
Can't even begin to explain all the flaws with the game launcher.
Buggy graphics all over the place.
Extreme lag on all the servers i tried.
Not alot of resolutions, black borders on both sides.
Thanks, i love Battlefield but this beta invite gave me more headaches than i gave me fun.
I'll hang out in Badcompany 2 until this mess is good enough to be called beta.
To be honest i have problem mustering some hope for this project, so far it's only a quick bug-filled BF2 nostalgia trip.

your not here to have fun you are here to help find bugs. thats why they want you. if you don't like playing bug filled games.. then why apply for a closed beta?
Kain, You may not realize but having fun in a Closed Beta is just as important as when the game is released. If you are unable to have fun in CB you can save the company time by explaining why you weren't having a good time, what they can do, etc.
It is very important to still try to have fun, after all its a game and that is what is meant to happen... testing or not.
(I'll reply with my first impressions after I finish installing the game)
The only problem I have so far is that I cant use my 360 controller with the game. It would be great if you could add that.

Why on earth anyone would play an online fps with a joypad is beyond me....mouse is so much more accurate.
My first impression was from bad to very bad... And I have reasons too...
*Marketing guys talking about the great B4F - a next gen completely free game, never seen before, stunning graphics for a free game, things like that. Think I'm exaggerating? Let me know and I'll send you links to interviews.
*Useless Shop.. Sorry.. I said useless? I meant completely useless. I mean, I must pay real money for a weapon? And wait, there's more, those weapons are useless, they are way weaker than the default weapons.
Ok, I understand that we need to support devs, so they make more *******free******* games, yes, we should let them live, make their job easy, but when you say something is free, then make it FREE. I've seen a lot of free FPSs just like BP4F, not made EA or Activision, or Ubisoft, but by companies that failed at the marketing and hype chapter, just because they didn't have the franchise name(you can name even toilet paper Justin Bieber or Hannah Montana, and it'll get sold like out of the oven bread).
And the things I enjoyed..

.. the sound effects, the animations, vehicles, leveling system, classic CTF/CH, classes.
I'm sorry guys, but i wouldn't even waft the name of the venerable Battlefield series in the general direction of this... "game".
The player movement is laggy and SLOW.
There's no prone.
The weapons lack any and all feedback.
You can't strafe while running.
There's no option to change the weapon sights toggle (who plays with it set to "switch" anyway?)
It looks bad (worse than BF2 in my opinion).
The main menu is laggalicious.
Paying for weapons (really?!)
Weapon switching with mousewheel didn't work.
Can't launch from steam.
No server browser!
No ingame option menu.
No way to see your ping.
Crashed firefox when exiting the game.
And worst of all: it's not fun.
It's like a combination of everything that was wrong with BF2, with everything that sucked in Bad Company.
I was really hoping we'd have something in this game to hold us over until BF3, but it seems that the only thing this game is made for is trying to extract money from people small amounts at a time. Maybe the graphics are extra as well.
Time to hunt down all the bits it injected into my system (a firefox plugin... really!?) and sending them straight to game hell.
My first impressions are rather negative. The main problem for me is the inability to stick to just one side of the combatants (USA in my case) You see I am from Georgia and after 2008 I (as well as 99% of Georgians) don't want to play on the Russian side.
Great game, I have to reinstall the game each time I restart my computer, but that is okay, it doesn't take long time to download it.
The game is simple, and it should be kept that way. Forget everything about attachable gear, like scopes, larger clip size and so on. And forget about (if you are thinking about it) kill streak bonus and stuff like that, we have enough of it in COD.
What makes this game fun is the simplicity, and gameplay ofc :o)
Just loaded and started playing the game. Not bad, not great, good game play not great grahics but hey it's free and anything you can get for free these days is a bonus.
Whatever other people say, I think the idea of a game in a firefox plugin is pure genius. The graphics are better than bf2, but there is no prone, which makes me sad. Also, the fact that you can't change classes ingame is a real pain, the sniper scope could zoom a little more, and they REALLY need to change the policy on deleting profiles. If you screw up, then the game is pointless. I think you should be able buy attachments, but having to pay money just to get new guns is a real downer, at least you can get them for a limited time with XP points, if they keep that, I'll keep playing.
I like the game, its just feels "good" not cheap like a lot of the free2play games out there.
What i miss, is a way to enforce teamplay, i would like to see squads or something like that, at least for friends to play together and do some strategic gameplay.
What makes the game fun is also that it is how battlefield should be, not some strange COD like thing.
Ok after this last round i played i want to add some things, i think its needed to enforce people to use their abilities (dropping medi packs, dropping ammo) for me as a sniper its really annoying to die just because there is nobody in a team with at least 3 assault guys who drops me an ammo package.
I just died about 3 times because i simply ran out of ammo and after about a minute of asking and waiting for help somewhere on the battlefield i just jumped from a building to get a new start with new ammunition.
I was looking forward to this game, but my computer was lagging like CRAZY and, in under a minute of play time, the game shut down and gave me and said there was an error. Are there base requirements for graphics cards and such to play this game?
personally, I was expecting much more, years out of date graphics, possibly even worse that bf2, adding a money system where you HAVE to buy with real money to get anything decent, very glitchy, parachutes never work, can't pick up other peoples kits, and an overall bad game
sincerely - bf2, 2142, bfbc,bfbc2, and future bf3 owner
PS: BFH tried, but was crap to, enjoyed it more than this though, has much better art style though
Plane missiles are poor, can fix that?
I really enjoy this game. I'm a longtime hardcore competitive FPS player and its kind of funny to me how some people don't understand what this game really means. It means awesome btw.
Exceptional job. People may not understand the idea that you can easily buy your favorite gun anytime with the accrued points you've earned, but the disconnect is inherent to gamer ideology (I don't permanently get it?). Sounds like a good idea on paper, but you may want to establish a "high" amount of silver creds to permanently purchase weapons. OR have some weapons able to be purchased with silver creds, better ones not. Don't try to "rope" players in, they'll feel betrayed. The goal is fun here, somehow assemble it in the most fun way. (edit: I was doing some thinking. you should allow players to buy the guns, but have upgrades be temporary. that way you unlock the basic gun, and style it up with battlecreds. thank me for that one.
Also, the guns all feel great, the hit detection is simply amazing. I'm really impressed with how fluid and lag free all my games have been. The nostalgia from BF2 was overwhelming. I love it.
Keep it up guys, don't let the noobs ruin it. You got potential here.

Sorry, I forgot.. How the cr@p am I supposed to be a F sniper if I can't prone?! What? Am I supposed to stand on a crane like a duck and try to shoot 2 people in the whole match? It's like I'm saying, hey hey, shoot me, I'm here, look at me. I could kill way more guys, standing in sniping locations, with a machine gun, A Machine Gun. The Recon device used by snipers are useless. And you can't hold your breath or set your sniper rifle so you have a steady shot. It's like you're a F conscript with a sniper rifle and someone has told you to shoot guys.
