A-Ten-Hut,
The networking god that is Kristoffer Benjaminsson has taken some time out of his busy schedule to explain why you may experience something akin to lag every now and then, and that we are working to correct the situation asap.
The beta has been running for some time now. It started out somewhat bumpy, but as time has gone by the game has gradually improved. Remember in the beginning when it was quite hard just to get into a server? We’ve fixed a lot of connectivity issues and will continue to do so as we find them.
One thing that is till plaguing the beta is lag. Or the perception of lag really. Because what you as players experience as lag is most of the time the result of the game server not running at full speed.
The way the game works, the game server is authoritative and simulates all game logic. The clients more or less only renders what the server tells it to. When the game server isn’t keeping up, the clients try and guess what to do next, just to be corrected from the game server from time to time. This leads to a laggy experience. So what many players blame their Internet connection or a service provider for can very well just be performance problems on the servers.
There are multiple reasons why this is happening and without going into details let me just say that there are quite a few things that have changed internally in the game since Battlefield Heroes producing new challenges for us to solve.
And that’s the bottom line. We are aware of the lag and are working on solutions to reduce and in the end remove it. Please bear with us while we fix it. After all, it is a closed beta.
Thanks,
Kristoffer Benjaminsson, CTO
Hopefully the above gives you a bit of insight into what is happening and why.
