I had a look at the comparison thing to see how the m24 compared to the default. It seems to be more or less the same except slightly higher damage. The bullet drop thing is quite annoying at really long ranges unless there's something I'm missing that makes estimating distance easier. What, if anything, would fall between the m24 and the m95 in terms of m95s power/minimal drop and the m24s speed?

Its really annoing that EA have so experts level of weapons that they do rifle from early 50's better than marksma rifle from early 70's... If even you can compare it, SKS has worse ammo, and should have lower accuracy and range because of lower velocity. I wonder, why they dont give russian bolt action on level at least M24, and why they using russian rifles that are from long time in retire... Why do they dont give us garand, as non-reloadable and hard to use scopeless thing? Its same kind as SKS, but older, that have to mean its better...

L96, more than anything. See for yourself:

I just remembered i've got my elite recon starter pack from CB still that has an M95 rental. I'll give that a go and see how i get on. Looking at the stats there though, the L96 does look pretty good. Just a shame its so expensive. I'm not going to be getting to level 24 anytime soon with any of my soldier, let alone Recon.

SKS has a higher rof, a higher range, a bigger clip and less deviation and recoil than the M110. Only the deviation settel times are higher. I don't think I'm allowed to provide more information so I stop at this point....

I've actually seen the full stats with the tool. The fact that the SKS has all the advantages of which you speak over weapons that utilize a more powerful and accurate cartridge in the real world is straight laughable. It just shows how little the devs in this game know or care.

I've seen the stats with the tool too Smile
Realism is not a factor in this game, thats no news. But complete realism would make many weapons useless compared to others, so I think it's more important to create well balanced weapons than ultra realistic ones.
But we're getting ot Smile

True. However, balanced in this case would make the SKS either similar or in some respects equal to the M14/M110.

Chinese needle bayonet? This gun is definitely for long-range sniping!

PS it must be easy to roast sausages on the fire after hunting on it...

Effective range is rated out to 800m. Do I believe that? Not a chance. I can hit out to 200m easy since I'm used to it and have it sighted in. As for the pig sticker, I've never roasted anything on it as I don't use this weapon for hunting. It's just a plinking gun for me. If I were hunting, I'd be using something else... like a Remington M700 in 7.62N or an M14. Smile

I didn't give him the full Richard Cheney this time, Buck.. but I did once by accident. He got sprayed with some birdshot that had ricocheted off a harder target than I expected it to be. He wasn't hurt, but he did have a few welts on his leg that he showed me later from shot hitting his jeans. I just remembered him yelling, "oww!"... and then I looked over at him, he seemed fine, and fired again. Another "owww!" came from his direction, so I asked him what he was crying about. He said, somewhat comedic sounding, "You shot me, I think."

Yawn..

..and I'd prioritize Precision barrel over any other attachment on the M95, possibly casket mags..

Without a doubt. Perhaps more than any other attachment, the barrel is the most effective and productive when applied to a sniper/DMR rifle.

Hmm well I've been giving the M95 a go. It's pretty decent but it's pretty slow. Was chatting to some people in game and they were trying to convince me the GOL would be a better choice than the M24. I'm still not sure.

Also just to cover all the bases, how does the VSS actually perform? Is it just useless over anything longer than short mid range?

The VSS is a beast on low-mid ranges if handled properly. Anything beyond 50m and you might as well use a rubber-band gun. You can of course fit the VSS to be managable on longer ranges but that kind of beats the purpose in my opinion.

I used the VSS exclusively to gain the last 4 ranks on one of my r25.
